It’s Monday morning and I’m in Wolverton at The Garage Arden Park – why? My car failed the MOT on two issues, the first being the rear brake pads and the second the anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust covers – evidently they had perished …
Now these dust covers have a seven word title which of course is more than is needed as most of us probably remember them when they used to be called – yes, “rubber boots”.
I must admit when I was told the reason for the failure, I instantly thought “Loadsa money”. More annoyingly, my mobile mechanic moved away earlier this year and of course trying to find someone you trust is always difficult. I have used The Garage on numerous occasions for new tyres and as they now have a service team, I asked for a quote for the second problem. Well, imagine my astonishment when they quoted a massive £150 less than I had already been quoted through the main dealer. And they could do the work in 2 days’ time and not the 3 weeks quoted by the dealer. Even better, they could supply a courtesy car. So – here I was a little happier, first phase of work completed and second phase completion only a couple of days away.
Therefore, I always have concerns when dealing with my customers – after all I know what I’m talking about and never assume that they do to, so I always make sure that they understand the potential dangers or the reason why something is not up to standard. I mean, only last week I unplugged a piece of equipment which promptly broke into 3 parts; when I gave the responsible person the broken pieces, he asked “What is the problem?” I really thought he was joking, but I’m sad to say he wasn’t.Now apart from finding a garage that gives good customer service, the one thing that always bothers me, is why use 7 words when 2 will do? Having come from a training background, I was always taught to use the KISS phrase – KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID – if rubber boots has worked in the past, then why use anti-roll bar whatsits?
Until next time …We provide a professional service within the field of In-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, (PAT Testing) – again another 7 when 2 will do, but I always make sure that any problems, concerns or failures are highlighted to the client in such a way that they understand.
