Have you ever bought a new electrical appliance and thought that the registration card is a waste of time to complete? Well, it might just be a waste of time, but those few minutes that you take to complete the card could ultimately save your life …
Why Bother With Product Registration Cards?
The reason is that these cards are a way in which the manufacturing company can make contact in the event that an appliance that has been found to be faulty. Have you heard about the Beko fridges found to be a potential fire risk?
“This is the main reason for these cards, so that the manufacturer knows who to contact in case of a safety recall!”
Personally, I do complete the registration cards, mainly so that I can be contacted in the event that one of my appliances was found to be dangerous and posed a hazard to me and my home.
I have recently been reading articles issued by Electrical Safety First in which they are highlighting the increase in counterfeit goods. Most alarmingly, counterfeit components are being found to have entered the manufacturing production lines.
So if you have bought a shiny new washing machine or dishwasher and can’t be bothered to complete the card, what’s going to happen a few months later when there is an urgent recall on said product?
No completed registration card means that you may have a ticking time bomb in your home and, in the worst case scenario, you may need a visit from the local Fire Service, as this time bomb exploded and caused a fire!
Until next time …For the sake of 5 minutes to complete and send off a registration card – or maybe doing it online – you could be protecting the lives of both yourself and your loved ones! Why wouldn’t you do it?
