Whenever we PAT test offices there are always the inevitable tangled wires that resemble a mass of spaghetti! Quite often, these can be so entangled they become a health and safety hazard, this is when we advise the client invests in some cable management …
The Art Of Professional Cable Management
When we carry out PAT testing in offices without cable trays, we try to refit the cables in such a way that they are neat and tidy. Some of the most common ways in which we are able to do this is by the use of cable ties and Velcro strapping. This tiding of the cables is an additional service that we offer.
The purpose of cable management is to support the cables using products such as cable trays, cable ladders and cable baskets which are used to support a cable through cabling routes.
“I can never understand how cables get so knotted, twisted and entangled!”
Like I said earlier, cables can easily become tangled, making them difficult to work with and sometimes resulting in devices accidentally becoming unplugged as you attempt to move a cable for a different device.
We call it ‘cable spaghetti’ even though buildings and office furniture are often designed with cable management in mind; for instance, desks sometimes have holes for cables to be routed through and floors are sometimes raised a few centimetres to allow cables to be snaked underneath.
“Did you know that power cables should be grouped separately from data cables and only allowed to cross at right angles to minimise electromagnetic interference?”
FTS Safety Solutions are able to provide a suitable solution to help your business remove any cable spaghetti thereby removing any potential of crosstalk/interference whilst also adhering to any Health and Safety policies to protect staff from slips and trips.
