Where has January gone? With February almost upon us, we have seen an increase in the number of clients, both old and new, requesting our services. This includes one client who has already confirmed six weeks of work for 2015 …
Searching For Inspiration As 2014 Hits
Thankfully I can plan for this workload, but if that was due today I know I would have serious concerns as to whether the current team could cope. Added to this, we are less than eight weeks away from the re-launch of our brochure and new services.
So what’s the best mechanism to adopt? Panicking, prioritising or planning? I guess it should be planning, so where should I start? There’s an awful lot to think about!
Workload – planned timescales and quantities for testing.
Staffing levels – apprentices are cheaper than a full time staff member, but they will need additional training so a full time member of staff already qualified and experienced?
Sub-contractors – not really my preferred option. Sometimes, they really do not act in a professional manner, after all it’s not their business is it? They still get paid regardless, but they are useful when additional staff are needed.
Business loan – needed for expansion but assuming the banks are actually lending!
Leasing a Vehicle – I have to think about the carrying of stock and more servicing equipment and the car is not really suitable for this. Worse still – and it has happened in the past – is when a powder extinguisher accidentally discharges and the driver disappears in a cloud of white smoke! I have been told that the powder takes months to remove from every nook and cranny in which case a van would be a better option.
New customers – Where shall I get them from, how large and what type of organisations will they be?
Until next time …If you’d like to work with a professional testing company who are expanding in 2014 then do call me on 0330 6600264 and let’s see how FTS Safety Solutions can help you with PAT testing, fire extinguisher maintenance and electrical condition reports.I’m going to revisit my business plan and see what it said I should do! Things have changed dramatically over the past few months and I’m pretty sure my original business plan for 2014 did not mention anything about having to gain ISO 9001 so I could service fire extinguishers.
