When booking a Fixed Wire Test, the first question we ask is how many circuits do you have? Most people will not know how to give an answer to this. Don’t sit there staring at the phone in horror – In this blog we walk you through how to count circuits for fixed wire testing in your premises.
How to Count Circuits for Fixed Wire Testing
First things first, you need to locate your distribution board/fuse board. Simply open the cabinet or cover, to expose the circuits.
There are 3x types of circuits:
This distribution board has 12 circuits to test. In this property this is one of 4 boards. Remember to count the circuits on all distribution boards.
In the example below we see a Three Phase Circuit. So in this instance you have 16 circuits on this board. You can see on circuit 13 the switch is a solid piece across three squares (MCB’s).
Please note: There are instances where a Three Phase could be counted as 3 circuits, if there are 3 feeds then each one will have to be tested.
A circuit count should be treated as an estimate, don’t be surprised if your count doesn’t end up accurate. We ask you to count the circuits so we know, roughly, how long the testing will take our engineer and to give you a quotation to provide the service. Of course if we have tested your premises before we will know exactly how many circuits you have… unless you have added a new East Wing!
