Fire Safety UK Business Safety Week 2015
A fire is one of the most dreaded events for any business owner; could you imagine how you would feel if your life’s work went up in smoke, someone got hurt, or worse?
“Research indicates that 80% of companies that suffer from a major disaster like a fire are likely to fail within 18 months!”
However, with new fire safety legislation in the United Kingdom, the number of fires have rapidly reduced, yet even just one is a real tragedy.
All fire safety legislation starts with the requirement for a risk assessment. It’s not too daunting as you can do it yourself and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) provide templates to help you get started.
Of course, the other option is to bring in an expert like FTS Safety Solutions, and that can be very beneficial if you are short of time or need to stay focused on your staff, customers and your premises.
“Remember, don’t take chances and don’t bury your head in the sand!”
The main focus of the UK Business Safety Week this year are your fire exits. Are you sure it is possible to find a way out of your building to a place of safety while minimising the risk of injury to staff and visitors?
Of course, the provision of fire extinguishers is also an important part of any business owner’s duty of care, and having employees trained on how to safely use them is paramount. You must also ensure that fire extinguishers are serviced annually by a trained engineer.

I’m very observant when out and about, even in a social capacity. It frightened me when I was at a function last weekend and never one to miss a business opportunity, saw that the Fire Extinguishers in the building were last serviced over four years ago in 2011!
