Fire extinguishers come banded with a variety of colours to be used in different situations. Depending on the environment, the correct one should be available to use in the event of a fire …
Fire Extinguishers Which One Is Right For You?
If the fire is out of control or you have called the emergency services already, do not attempt to put the fire out yourself! Your safety is more important. You should only use a fire extinguisher in the following situations:
You are safe enough to use it
The fire is small and contained
You know how to use it
The room is not filled with smoke
Below, I outline the different types available and when you should use them. You will see that there are instances where they ‘cross over’ or examples where they mustn’t be used, however, if you are at all unsure about whether to use a particular fire extinguisher, do not use it!
