Thermal Imaging Surveys FAQs

Thermal Imaging surveys highlight hot spots and potential fire hazards in a non disruptive manner. Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions about our thermal imaging surveys, if you have queries not covered in this section please feel free to contact us on 0330 6600264 or email [email protected]

What can Thermal Image Survey identify?

Thermal image survey can identify temperature anomalies in whatever you are imaging.  Among other things, these temperature anomalies can indicate:

  • High resistance connections
  • Over loaded cables
  • Over loaded fuses or breakers
  • Overheating in distribution equipment
  • Overheating in Cables and Appliances
  • Phase load imbalance
You say the thermal imaging is ‘largely unobtrusive’, does that mean you don’t need to access the installation?
As the imager needs direct vision of the components being imaged, panels and covers still need to be opened for visual access.
What do you provide me with in your report?
Your report will contain the observations made with regard to the thermal imagery carried out, with details of the locations and photos of any anomalies detected. Recommendations for further investigations, if any, will be included.
I have been told that an electrical test and inspection is not necessary if we have our premises surveyed with thermal imagery, is this true?
No – Thermal image survey is a useful addition to periodic electrical testing and inspection but is not a replacement,  It is an excellent interim maintenance option between periodic inspections, particularly in high risk areas, and if a percentage test is being carried out it is a low cost option to cover the areas not being fully tested at that time specifically server areas.
