Over the past seven days I have been extremely busy carrying out PAT testing for various different businesses, from Bed and Breakfasts to Public Houses and from offices to restaurants. However PAT testing is not the only thing that I have been involved with …
I spent some time with a company who specialise in fire risk assessments, including fire doors and seals. Now why this in particular? Well I was asked to first provide a mini presentation to the assessors about some of the things that we find which could result in a fire.
The first thing that I told them about was about My Pet Hate – the cardboard wiring diagrams. Why oh why does nobody ever remove them from the appliance? I even find them on equipment that has supposedly been tested and charged for by reputable testing companies.
I then explained about the number of counterfeit cables that are flooding the British market from overseas. What did frighten them was the fact that unless you work daily in the testing industry, most people would not know the dangers. After that I explained some of the things that have been found when I’m testing – you know the things – kitchen foil fuses or more recently a cut down nail.
Anyway after my presentation I was invited to stay for the second presentation by Envirograf, a Fire Protection company. This explained all about the different types of fire protection products that are available for buildings.
I was amazed about some of the things that have been made to protect a building so that you can escape in the event of fire. The most interesting thing that I saw was the thin strips which are put inside of an electrical socket which, when there is a fire, expand sealing the socket so that the fire cannot travel through the building allowing the maximum time for everyone to escape.
Until next time …So that’s a little bit about my past seven days, but if you need further information about PAT Testing or even Fire Risk Assessments call me on 0330 6600264 or click here to ping me an email and I’ll call you straight back.
